The Odyssey

Late last year, August Heffner, art director of Diner Journal, came to me with the idea of photographing an issue inspired by The Odyssey. The plan was to produce the entire magazine during one long dinner party--recipes, drawings, interviews, pictures, and poetry with help from the guests and the fates. So one Sunday, an eclectic group, including filmmaker Jonas Mekas, musician Julianna Barwick, and Dossier editor Alec Friedman, filled the home of Andrew Tarlow, oligarch of the Diner empire, and feasted on goat, olives, and wine. The resultant fumblings are Diner Journal No. 17.
